Hummm… Basically, autoZifter is an accessory with a side benefit of creating a more natural shifting motion that maintains the mechanics of the OEM shifter. I’ll do my best to answer your question, but please don’t be offended if it sounded demeaning in anyway. It’s mostly my way of thinking things out. I think there are pros and cons when comparing manual vs SAW and auto vs SAW, but autoZifter isn't really meant to compete with manual or SAW. It is an upgrade to the OEM auto shifter. It allows the users to accessorize their shifter like a manual transmission driver would with a Sparco or MOMO shift knob. It kept all functionalities of the OEM shifter except the Overdrive button, which, I believe most drivers kept it ON and don’t use it. The operation of autoZifter is same as operation of the OEM shifter except it’s more natural. When you press the side button of the OEM shifter, the button pushes down a rod that has a pin at the bottom of the shifter shaft. This pin moves in a profiled cutout to engage in different gears P, R, N, D,..etc, in a way that you wouldn’t inadvertently shift into R from P or N and 2 from D. autoZifter grips onto the rod that the pin's attached to. So, anytime you would press on the side button to shift, you would need to push autoZifter down. The feel of the “shift” or clicks between gears is from the transmission and autoZifter doesn’t take that away. In another word, with the OEM shifter, once you shift from P and pass R, you can release the side button and still click the shifter into N and D. Same with autoZifter, that you can relax the pushing down on the knob after passing R and click into D with a very natural motion. Regarding to shifting from D to 2, you would need to press the side button to shift the OEM shifter, but not from 2 to 1. So autoZifter is no different in this. Press down on the knob from D to 2. I personally can’t say that autoZifter makes it easier or not to miss 2 since I seldom shift to 2 or 1 even before I have SAW…
